It's been over 9 months since we've talked about our plans for organized play with Grand Archive. Although most things are staying true to our original plans, there are a couple of additions we know game stores will welcome with open arms!

Event Packs

Starting with the first wave of Dawn of Ashes Alter Edition, brick and mortar stores that purchase Grand Archive products from partnered distributors will get several Event Packs based on their order size. These Event Packs play a role that's entirely separate from our Omnidex organized play app. Their purpose is to encourage stores to run events and increase player participation. It is up to the store's discretion on how their packs are distributed at events, whether as a participation prize or a top placement prize. Here are some extra notes on Event Packs:

  • Each pack has one foil card from Dawn of Ashes Alter Edition set.
  • There are three different Event Packs associated with Dawn of Ashes: Event Packs 0, 1 and 2.
  • Each different Event Pack has the same base pool of foil cards, with an addition of an exclusive CSR card.
  • Stores do not need to be enrolled in the Omnidex to receive the first Event Pack (Event Pack 0) from the first wave of Alter Edition product.
  • Subsequent Event Packs (Event Pack 1 and 2) are included alongside additional waves of Alter Edition product or are provided directly from us.
  • Stores are not allowed to sell/open Event Packs. Please report misconduct to: support@weebsoftheshore.com.

  • The Omnidex

The Omnidex is the official Grand Archive organized play web application that we have started development on. As you'd expect from an OP application, stores will be able to host events and players will be able to join events. What makes the Omnidex stand out against other OP systems is our player ranking system, which is inspired by the ranking systems of online competitive games. Players are ranked in the Omnidex on three metrics:

  • Veterancy - A metric that measures how many total matches the player has played.
  • ELO - A metric that measures the player's general skill.
  • Event Points - A metric that measures the player's mastery within the current season.

  • These three metrics combined will determine the player's Champion Points (CPs). Depending on how many CPs a player has, they are assigned a rank along with rank rewards.

    Unranked (CP 0 - 599)

  • Players start here with a fresh Omnidex account.

  • Bronze (CP 600 - 999)

  • Eligible for Bronze promo card redemption this season.

  • Silver (CP 1000 - 1399)

  • Eligible for Silver promo card redemption this season.

  • Gold (CP 1400 - 1799)

  • Eligible for Gold promo card redemption this season.

  • Platinum (CP 1800 - 2199)

  • Eligible for first round byes at Ascent events.

  • Diamond (CP 2200+)

  • Free entry to Ascent events.

  • Ascendant (Top 100 Worldwide)

  • Eligible for special promo card redemption (direct mail).

  • Demigod (Top 10 Worldwide)

  • Eligible for special CPR card redemption (direct mail).
  • (Rank rewards subject to change)

    Early Testing

With the launch of Dawn of Ashes Alter Edition, we will be openly testing a limited version of the Omnidex where the maximum rank is Gold. We hope to provide support for the rest of the ranks on the official launch of the Omnidex with the "ALC" main set. Even with a limited version of the Omnidex during the testing period, we feel that the ranking system will be rewarding to players. Plus, Veterancy and ELO(partially) carries over to the next season!

  • Ascent: Path of Silver

Path of Silver is the main event at Ascent that focuses on collecting. It is a new type of event that the TCG community has never seen before, and is Grand Archive’s way of encouraging collectors to attend the events like Ascent. Participants submit a 50 card collection and formulate a score among multiple categories.

Similar to Path of Steel, this event is also separated into two days: the first day being the planning day, and the second day being the submission day.

Every card has a point value in three categories. Just by having a card in your 50-card collection, that card contributes points to your collection's score. The total score of a card is usually determined by how rare the card is, while the specific category point values are based on the card’s art, story, and design.

For example: Card score data will be viewable directly on the Index, and will be publicly available many months before Ascent.

In addition to individual card point values, there are set bonuses. Participants earn bonus points in their score by having a set of cards complete in their 50-card collection submission. Multiple set bonuses can exist within the collection submission but a card can only contribute to one set regardless if multiple sets call for that card. Obtaining set bonuses accounts for the majority of points that the participants will be aiming for. As a point of reference, individual card point values could only account for 20% of a collection's total score while set bonuses account for 80%.

    For example:
Unlike individual card points, the set bonuses will only be revealed at the start of the planning day(day 1). This encourages participants to bring a large collection, to be prepared to complete sets. Participants have the entire day to optimize their 50 card collection using cards from their collection, or by obtaining cards from other players and vendors at the event.

During the morning of day 2, the submission day, participants submit a form detailing their 50 card collection. The judging process will begin shortly after. After the judging process has begun, participants are no longer allowed to exchange cards.

Prizes are awarded based on total collection points, and for each category.

This is only the beginning of our Organized Play system. With each season, we'll improve on the last, bringing a unique flair and twist to our events. As our community grows, we'll look to host events globally as well as online. Do you have what it takes to ascend?
