Ascent Houston is our first major event for Grand Archive! This event aims to attract not just our most competitive players, but also our passionate collectors. Located in Houston, where Grand Archive was developed, all of the Grand Archive team will be present. This event is run directly by Weebs of the Shore.

Choose Your Path

Aspirants, challengers, and glory-seekers, come test your mettle in the Path of Steel at our very first Ascent! Forge your decks and hone your regalia as only one will be crowned Champion at Ascent Houston. And if trial by combat isn't to your taste, come showcase your magnificent collection of Grand Archive! Charming critters, graceful swords, or valorous steeds, which thema will be your forte? Or will you aim to rise above the rest in the Path of Silver?
Note: The cards awarded for Top 32 in Path of Steel and the cards awarded in the overall score categories of Path of Silver are not exclusive to Ascent Houston, but will feature an Ascent Houston stamp. These promotional cards will be awarded the next couple Ascents.

Other Activities

Aside from our two main events, there will be other activities to enjoy too!

Earn Ascent Store tickets from on-demand side events for draft and constructed formats, browse the card selections of local vendors, and meet some Grand Archive special guests!

Find the mysterious coin machine hidden somewhere in the venue. oooOOOoo. (It'll probably be pretty easy to find, and it probably won't be too mysterious.)

At the end of everything, join the developers for a special presentation of what's in store for Grand Archive. (Maybe Sylidar will leak some cards..)

FAQ

Q: What format will be played at Path of Steel?
A: Standard. The sets that will be legal are Dawn of Ashes and Fractured Crown.

Q: What is Path of Silver?
A: Path of Silver is a collector's event where participants submit a collection of cards to have scored based on their thema and set bonuses. A more detailed article regarding Path of Silver will be released later.

Q: Is it possible to sign up for both Path of Steel and Path of Silver?
A: Yes, but it's not recommended. You will be busy with Path of Steel for the majority of Day 1, and won't be able to spend time to optimize your collection submission for Path of Silver. Collection verification will happen during the Day 2 matches. So if you make it to Day 2, you will need to have a trusted friend or staff member supervise your collection as it's being verified.

Q: What is a Nationals Wildcard Qualifier Card?
A: It is a playable Grand Archive card that doubles as an admission ticket to any upcoming Grand Archive Nationals event. Like any other card, it can be traded or sold. The card awarded specifically at Ascent Houston will be an extended alternative art Orb of Regret in foil. Upon using the card to enter a Nationals, the card will be taken and be replaced by a CPR version of it.

A: William P. Hobby Airport, about 10 miles away

Q: Share prize card images?
A: Sure.


Q: Will Sylidar actually ban Refurbish?
A: He says if someone in the top 8 of Path of Steel has a Refurbish in their main deck, he'll do it.
